Online writing jobs - how long do you spend looking for them?
67How many times do you hear people say there aren't enough online writing jobs available? Or more to the point, the ones they do find are so low paid it's not worth applying for them?
Let me set the record straight here and say that it's not true all online writing work is poorly paid. It just depends on what you are prepared to go out and find - and how much you persevere. The magic word here is EFFORT. You need to persevere and keep trying if you want to find the best paid writing jobs online.
What normally happens when people start looking for writing work online is this. They trip over all the low paid ones initially, and then give up in disgust because they assume those are the only ones which are available. It's understandable and it's a common mistake. A lot of people give up when they see all those low paid '$1 per 500 article' jobs. I don't blame them, but if they stuck at it a bit longer they would start discovering the higher paying work.
When I got started in this business I made a pact with myself. I agreed I would look for writing work every single day, no matter what. I also decided it wouldn't be enough to keep looking in the same old places all the time. So I started looking in all kinds of places instead.
Could your keyboard lead you to online writing jobs?
Two weeks later...
After fourteen days I had my first article writing job. It wasn't the best one I have ever had - in fact it was far from it - but it also paid more than a measly $1 per 500 words. I got experience, confidence and my first online writing payment from that job. And I kept on searching for more work too.
But what would have happened if I hadn't persevered for those two weeks? Nothing. That's it - I would have failed to become a writer and I wouldn't now be working full time doing what I love.
Believe me when I say this is all that separates me from you, if you happen to want to earn money online by writing. You just need to stick with it and look for those jobs. You never know when they will turn up - or where.
My tip for online writing success
Here's the thing. That word, 'perseverance', is very much undervalued. People don't stick at their efforts for long enough. It might take you two weeks to find your first online writing job. On the other hand it could take ten minutes. Or it might take a month or more.
But if you give up before you get to your own personal first writing job, you'll never experience the joy of being able to write for cash. You'll never get paid for writing, you'll never have the chance to build a career doing something you truly love. So why not stick at it? Wouldn't you love to have a very full plate in a year from now, writing for all manner of different clients?
Apply for each job in turn and then forget about it. Move on to the next one. Keep going. And don't let anything stop you from carrying on. Sooner or later you WILL score a success.
