7 ways to find ghost writing jobs online
69I have been a full time writer since 2007, and since that time I have developed my own routine for finding online ghostwriting jobs.
For those that aren't familiar with this kind of writing, ghostwriting basically means that you write content for other people. When that content is published it appears under their name and not yours, hence you are a 'ghost'.
Luckily for us, there are a lot of people out there who cannot or do not want to write the content they need. This is why you will always find lots of online ghostwriting jobs whenever you look on the internet - you just need to know where to look to find them. Let me share some of my tricks and tips with you so that you can earn from ghost writing as well.
You need a regular plan
When it comes to finding online ghostwriting jobs you need to look for them on a regular basis. You should accept right from the start that you are not going to win every single job you go for. Even those writers who are very successful at snagging ghost writing jobs never get anywhere near even half of the ones they apply for. Probably not even a quarter of them, to be honest.
This means you have to apply for a lot to get the number you really want. Let's say that if you apply for ten jobs you might get one. So if you want to get ten jobs you need to apply for a hundred. As soon as you start thinking about it in simple maths terms you will see how much easier it makes your task of finding online ghostwriting jobs.
Here are the methods I use
- I use Google Reader to help me look for new ghostwriting jobs online. I check this every day to see how many RSS feeds with jobs attached come in.
- I also go to Indeed.com and set up email alerts for specific phrases I want to find jobs for, i.e. blogging jobs, ghostwriting jobs, article writing jobs, and so on. If a particular phrase doesn't bring good results I tweak it until I am happy with it.
- I have a website for my professional writing services that brings in clients too.
- I network on Twitter - I have gotten two good clients out of these efforts that are pretty long term in duration.
- I use Google to search for online ghostwriting jobs - you would be surprised what you can find just by doing this! Just remember to search for specific job terms once again, such as blogging jobs and so on.
- I keep my eyes open and my ears to the ground. This is absolutely essential to do, otherwise you might trip over an opportunity and never even see it.
- I have also found writing work through Gumtree and Craigslist. Yes, there is some dross there but there are some really worthwhile jobs as well.
Two more hubs worth reading on finding ghostwriting jobs
- Using Google Reader to help you find online writing jobs
If you haven't used Google Reader yet and you are struggling to find online writing jobs, you might want to take a fresh look at it. - Using Indeed.com to help you find ghostwriting jobs
Indeed.com is a great place for finding all kinds of jobs worldwide. This includes ghost writing jobs as well.
Where will you find your online ghostwriting jobs?
So there you go - those are the main ways that I keep busy full time with my writing career. Make no mistake, these methods take some regular work and determination, but that is what making a full time career of online writing is all about.
Perhaps the best tip of all is to go online and find as many methods for getting those all important ghostwriting jobs as you can. Some work better for some people than they do for others. But the more time you devote to searching for work, the 'luckier' you'll be!
