How to start writing and selling articles to websites and clients online

So you want to sell articles, but you're not sure what you should be writing about.

Am I right? Lots of people come up against this problem when they first start out. How do you know which topics will sell? Where do you start? How can you get the best results? The early days of trying to earn money and sell your articles online can seem like a minefield of questions with very few answers available to help you out.

But the answer is simple - you should make the effort to write about whatever comes into your mind. If you are writing content for sites like Hubpages - where you can write on most subjects as and when you wish - you should simply get started by writing about what you like. You can then move on to other subjects as and when they occur to you.

But supposing you want to write for other people?

This is the other main way you can sell articles online. Instead of writing articles where you choose the subject, you can write and sell articles to other people based on what they want you to write.  This is good because you don't have to pick a topic - just find a writing job you like the look of and adhere to the client's instructions.

In this situation clients vary a lot when it comes to giving you directions to follow.  For example some might tell me to write five articles on Google Adsense.  Others might include specific keywords to be added in three or four times in each article.  Still more might have more specific requirements concerning how many paragraphs to have in each article and how many sentences in each paragraph.  Some people have very precise requirements like this!

In both cases it pays to think about what your own personal strengths are.  Later on when you are more experienced you can start writing about new subjects - ones you will have to research before you actually write the articles. But to start with it works well to stick with what you know, because it will give you confidence.  This applies to both writing articles to put on sites like Hubpages, and writing articles for other people.

In conclusion

In the end there is no magic set of topics that will work best for anyone.  The big secret - if there is one - is to start with what you know about and feel confident writing about.  Once you have got some experience you can browse other topics and start to become an expert on those too.

Once you have a good range of topics to write on, you can create more hubs on Hubpages, more lenses on Squidoo, and have more skills and experience to offer to clients who are looking for people to write articles for them.

And whichever path you take - residual income from sites like Hubpages, good payments from article writing clients or both - you can look forward to earning more the more effort you put in.  Good luck!
